Cash Loan With Good CCard Repayment?

I have been living in the Uk for the last 3.5 years, got myself credit cards like Vanquis, and then Capital One to build my score and then MBNA last year. I had each card for about two years, had little limits on them, paid back in full each month, followed all the other tips as listed on this site...
I wanted to take a cash loan for buying a vehicle and applied to Sainsabury's and got turned down. And Nat West, whom I bank with. And Zopla. Tried these three in one week.
Now, I'm not dying for the loan but how do I ensure I get cash loans in the future? I know if its not a big purchase, its better if I use a CCard, but if I wanted to build my credit score for cash loan purposes, where do I begin? :mad:
