Faulty Printer (Confirmed by Epson), No longer have receipt

Hey All,

So, I bought a printer from Argos in Sep 2012.

Explained the situation to Epson and they confirmed it is faulty and gave me a ref to use when contacting Argos.

However, I don't have the receipt (paid cash) and the only so called "proof of purchase" I have is the following:
  • Reservation email and number
  • Review your recent purchase email that gets sent out once you purchase something
  • Original packaging
  • The little docket that is stuck to an item when bought/paid for in store which shows the ref, time and order number on it.
Argos are stating that they cannot track the order as it is over 90 days since purchase but they have stated (via email):

"Many stores are also happy to accept the packaging with the
Argos catalogue number on as proof of purchase"

Is this true?

I don't want to have to travel to the store only to be told they won't replace it as I have no receipt and no other proof (bank statement or credit card statement etc)

Help!

Ring up the store and ask, technically they don't have to do anything without proof of purchase.

Print (I appreciate the irony - obviously only if possible. If not, take with you on a phone/tablet) the e-mail where they have said they will accept the packaging and take that with you.

If they've said so, they should accept it. It makes sense that it was bought from them if it has all the trimmings, so I'd follow the advice you've received.
