Eon increase, when should I give inflated meter reading?

My gas and electricity from Eon is increasing from 3rd June 2013 and my normal bill would usually be the end of June.
Should I give my meter reading on the 2nd June or the 3rd of June and should I ask for a bill or will it not make any difference?
Just kidding about inflating the reading, well, I might add a 100 kWh to the actual reading for gas and electricity and save a couple of £.:rotfl:

Getting forgetful, if you think I've asked this before I probably have. :rotfl:

You can usually give your meter reading within 5 days either side if you wish it to be used for a more accurate bill.0 -
Submit a meter reading no later than 11:59pm 2/6/13 and make a note of it.
When your bill arrives you can check the correct No. units have been charged at the old price. Discrepancies can occur and for some reason usually seem to be in favour of the supplier.0 -

And what evidence for that assertion? At price change, reads are estimated in exactly the same way as for producing an estimated bill. There's no special 'lets add a few units here and there' function for it, contrary to popular opinion. We only hear instances where it's not correct, you don't see people creating threads congratulating energy companies for an accurate estimation or if was wrong but in the consumers favour.Ex BG complaints veteran of 6 years!0 -

No need to deliberately inflate the estimate, just requires inaccuracy of apportionment.
Lets take the company you work for, B.G. With a customer base of millions a few kWh charged at post increase price that should have been charged at pre increase price may make only pennies difference to a customers bill but amount to thousands of £'s extra profit for the supplier.
Is your advice to the OP not to bother taking a meter reading as all suppliers can be trusted to provide an accurate bill?0 -

My advice to the OP is to certainly take a read if they can, after all, it's good to be accurate.
Inaccuracy works both ways equally, ie its just as likely to be wrong in the customers favour as it is in the suppliers on the whole.
Also, and trust me on this, eaking out money of customers in such a fashion (deliberately setting up of estimated reads in suppliers favour) is high risk for minimal reward. Why go to the trouble to gain a little bit more profit at the expense that possibly you get found out and publicly shamed which is immensely more costly?Ex BG complaints veteran of 6 years!0 -

Hi NowRetired
Sounds like you're on a tariff that's due to end shortly. Best time to give us a reading is on the very last day your current tariff is active.
However, if this date is outside our Billing Window, it won't be used for billing.
The Billing Window is a period of time either side of the bill date. Readings received during this time automatically create a bill.
The time the window is open depends on the frequency of the billing. For customers billed quarterly, the window is open 14 days either side of the bill date.
Readings received outside of this window, though, are noted but not used for billing.
There's a couple of ways round this. You can call us, give us the readings and ask for a bill to be issued to these. Alternatively, we've an online facility called Real Time Billing that you can use.
With Real Time Billing, you can enter readings online and request a bill be created to these. This can be done even if the account is outside the Billing Window.
Hope this is of interest NowRetired. Let me know if you need any more details as will be happy to help.

Hi Malc if I request a bill will that change all my billing times from 1/1/2013 1/4/2013 1/7/2013 etc to 1/6/2013 1/9/2013 etc or will my next bill be 4 months later instead of 3 months/
Hope you can understand that.Getting forgetful, if you think I've asked this before I probably have. :rotfl:0 -
Hi NowRetired
No, the regular billing cycle stays the same. You'll just have an interim bill in between.
Hope this helps.
