Hi guys,
My friends just turned 18 on 20th may, checked his credit file and there's a mobile phone default but he did not take the contract out. Contract said it started circa. 2011 clearly when he was under 18.
How should he go about getting this removed?

Lying about ones age is potentially worse than a default.0 -
May just be the CRA wrongly matching the account against his name, but........
If the CRA comes back saying that the info is correct, then dispute directly with the mobile company. In fact, might be best to do that from the off. i.e. attack the problem from both directions as one or the other usually denies it's their probem.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

I have successfully got a default removed by O2 in the past - so start with the mobile company. Tell them the truth, it wasn't your account. Ask them for details, and to prove they served you with a letter stating the default would be added. You could also ask them to provide you with a copy of the original contract.
They won't be able to do any of this if it didn't happen - more than enough reason to ask them to remove it. Any trouble, contact the CRA.0
