Paypal Personal/Premier Account?

Can someone please explain the difference between these two types of account? I don't understand what use the personal account is to a seller if you cannot receive credit card payments on it. I've always used my credit card to buy things on ebay through Paypal - will all these sellers have the Premier account?

I've just sold my first item today and have received an email from Paypal about upgrading - please help.

In most cases you'd need a premier or business account to accept payments from credit cards. AFAIK personal accounts can only accept payments from accounts that have been credited with money and are not drawing from a card.

Once upgraded you pay a % to paypal for each incoming payment, you can downgrade to avoid them, but it can only be done once.

In most cases you'll find paypal users have the chargeable type accounts (premier/business), so they can accept payments from more buyers.

I had the exact same thing happen to me recently. Just set up the personal account and got an ebay email saying I either had to refuse payment or upgrade to Premier! Like you, I couldn't really see the point of having a personal account in the first place as the vast majority want to pay by credit card
