O/S Daily Saturday 25th May

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

    morning all:j:j

Chilly, But Dry and the Suns out,

Forecast is for sun today, With only a small chance of showers, So we might be in for a good day:j:j Here's hoping.

Not long got up, That makes four day's In a row that Iv spent all night In Bed:j:j I know it will not last, But Im pleased with the four days of good (Ish) Sleep.

A rear day for me today, I can report that I have things planned and things to do! Busy,Busy!

This morning its the Reading and craft group at the local library. nice free actives for the Twins, Then after lunch , That will be Sandwich's and salad. Then after lunch we need to pop to the shops quickly, It my Dad's Birthday tomorrow. So we need to get him a card and Gift. From the Twins and from my Wife and I.

Dinner time tonight we are off out for a pub meal. With my Mum,Dad and the twins. My Brother and His partner can not make it as they are on holiday so we will get to go for another one too when then they get back. Which is great news for the twins as if you ask them they love going out too the pub, In fact if you ask them they are always going out to the pub! Which they don't. But you know what kids are they would get you shot! If you listened to them!

So a busy day for me. Makes a change from doing nothing.:j:j

Dinner last night was two Roast Chicken Thighs each, With Roast spuds and Honey Roast Cherry Tom's
Never tried the honey roast toms before. Got the recipe out of River cottage every day Veg Book that we have. There are some great Veg only recipe In this book. Some full meals and some to go with other dish's, There's snak's and treat In there too. Hard and easy stuff to do. We have done a few things out of this book. But I will admit that everything we have done we have done and put with a meat dish! As we do like a bit of meat here, I can recommend this book, But at £25 brand new if anyone would like a copy I would try and get a secondhand one off amazon, As the book is only about 18 months old It might be hard to find In the charity shops Just Yet.

Well I hope that you all enjoy the start of your bank holiday weekend.

Have a good day everyone :j:j

    Morning all
Busy day here today, it's my DD2's birthday party, it's a surprise for her & she doesn't know about it.
I was cooking sausages & chicken wings last night & I'm making cakes this morning.
Hubby needs dropping at work at 8:30, I shall buy some eggs on the way home & then start baking, I also need to make some cakes for a charity bake sale, so I'll double up on the chocolate brownies as they keep well.
I had a lovely surprise when I got home yesterday, 2 parcels of yarn, sent to me by someone who needed a good home for them, to say I'm delighted is an understatement!
Work was not nice yesterday, most of the support staff are what's called the 'sandwich generation' still having children at home & helping elderly parents too. We have 3 staff members who are in the throes of, teens with mental health issues & parents with cancer/dementia, unfortunately one staff member is finding it more difficult to cope than the others & is being unpleasant to her colleagues & the pupils alike. This came to a head yesterday when she had a meeting with HR (we all did, our job descriptions have been re-written) she feels unsupported, lost her temper & went home in tears.
The changes to the job descriptions have upset a lot of people, some people feel they have been demoted, no one is happy with the 'you must achieve 100% accuracy' demand. I'm going through mine with a fine tooth comb as I have noticed a few points I'm not happy with, such as I'm responsible for the security on my stock, well as I cannot lock my room, how am I supposed to ensure security?
Anyway, the sun is struggling through the clouds, so I shall forget work for a few days.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

  • Good morning everyone :)

Have just caught up with yesterday's thread and first thing must be to say what fantastic news Jackie O, I am so absolutely delighted for you :D

Lovely weather here this morning and overnight washing is already on the line, with more in the machine now.

Am not convinced this weather is set to last past the weekend so want to get some outside jobs done. There is tons of weeding to do and lots of repotting required. I want to give the patio stones a good scrub too.

DH has just got up and is about to start marking, I think he has one set of 32 with one question left to mark then we will have some brekkie. I need to alternate quiet and noisy jobs amongst his marking and breaks!

Few parcels to pack up for ebay so want to get going with those and get them in the post today. It's a free listing weekend so may add things I have put aside, not wanting to risk a 99p start.

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those who need them or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super day :)

    Morning Halight and all,

Not much to add from me i'm afraid. Ive been busy doing nothing if you know what i mean.

Hubby is working all weekend so i had to do my grocery shopping last night. £77 and i'm pleased at that.

Middle son came to see me yesterday and although its lovely to see him he worries the life out of me. Apparently he and his brother have had a falling out which in a way i'm pleased about because i always wondered what sort of destructive influence his older brother has on him. I'm actually wondering whether to get involved by talking to my eldest about it but i suppose he'll only tell me what i want to hear (he's good at that) and i dont really think either of them are good for eachother. Ive had to wade in before to sort the two of them out and they still cant act like grown adults. Thing is, one tells me one thing, the other tells me another and where booze is involved i dont really trust either of them to tell the truth.

Youngest is doing well at college. I keep reminding him to sort out his options for next year. He's been busy doing exams the last week or two and he will be breaking up in a couple of weeks time. I am having to push him all the time which really i dont want to do.

Daughter number 1 is waiting for a court date to see if they can adopt Soldier and daughter number 2 is 30 weeks pregnant and looks more 'radiant' every day. She, like her Mum loves being pregnant.

Halight, glad you slept well last night and Hester, i hope your daughter enjoys her party.

I'd best get on with the washing. Hubby has bought me home mountains of the stuff complete with mud/grass stains from being outside in the wet.

    Have a good day all,

Morning everyone and happy half term!

JackieO Congratulations on your wonderful news, you must be delighted.

Hester Sounds like you will be glad of the half term break from school, enjoy DD2's birthday.

    Molly Hugs

LW I would really miss your posts, don't you dare think of disappearing.

    Halight Enjoy your meal out.

Lou Lovely to hear from you yesterday.

Judi Glad that you got to see your son, we never stop worrying about them do we?

Well half term is finally here and the sun is out! We normally go away to Devon for this week but as DS and DD1 are deep in revision we are staying here, although DD2 and I are planning a day trip to Skegness at some point so I can see the sea!
Today OH and I are going out for a very posh lunch to belatedly celebrate his birthday (it was in April!) and apart from that I have very few plans.

Have a lovely day in the sunshine everyone.:)

    Morning everyone

Bright here for a change, hoping it will last as I have a neighbours garden to do but the grass is too wet to cut at the moment.

Plans for today are to do a bit of housework, some washing and ironing and some tinternet browsing :]
    DD is away to her Dads today but DS has opted to stay home {PS3 is calling him}
DH is suffering with a cold and is in pain with Kidney Stones - a regular happening with him, he gets them alot but every change in diet seems to have no affect other than giving up beer, wish we knew how to stop them, still, the pain killers work so thats good.

Have a great day everyone, hope you all get to see some sun
Hugs, sticks and spoons in a pile - help yourself :]

    Morning all,

Bright sunshine here but its still colder than it should be, first load is in the wm, and another to go in, will get them both on the line.

Need to take dd to work this morning, then home and jump in the shower and wash my hair, quick wizz through the housework and then off to see my dad at lunchtime.

Had a great day shopping yesterday, got a couple of bits, dd had a spending spree, but its her money, she earned it and deserves a treat.

Cam belt was done £250 :( lets just hope it passes its mot on monday.

Steak sandwich for dinner, OH turn to cook saturdays.

Topsy, a horrible situation for you, your DH is being a bit immature if you ask me, he knew you had children before you married him, sounds to me like he is throwing his toys out of the pram, hugs hun xx

    Have good days all xx

JackieO I was really pleased to hear your good news yesterday.

Well, the sun is out, so I'll get some washing on the line soon. I also have some ironing to do.

We are having quite a leisurely start to to day, as we have no need to go out, so have no need to rush.

I'll be doing some eBaying this weekend. As of last night I had 15 auctions that'll result in sales, with potential for a few more with watchers. I'll also be listing a batch of things over the next three days. So should be busy in that respect..

Lunch today is chicken jambalaya, so that should make a change.

    Anyway, have a good day.

    Morning all!
WM number 3 is nearly finished, have another 2 loads to do, DD has been doing her and boyfriends washing but there was a basket full of damp bath sheets! Good job its sunny today, think I will be filling mums line too!
Trip to town later to collect my engagement ring, and need to hit the supermarket, DD and BF are on the atkins diet so fridge is full of eggs and cheese and not much else! She started on Monday and has apparently lost 6lbs, he started a month ago and has lost 2 stone:eek:
Right, better shift and feed the WM again, have a good day all!
