No! Do not get a pay day loan!

I've never had one and it's not a first choice but what if he needs it? What's bad about it? :o

    Seriously?

The interest rates on these are absolutely horrific. IMO (and I'm not the only one) they should be banned. Just googled, the first interest rate I found advertised was APR 2120%. Borrow £500, at the end of the month you have to repay £625! The very first comapny I tried didn't even SHOW an interest rate - but the 'hit' took me straight to an application form:eek:

If there's no help forthcoming from other sources your employer might be able to offer a sub on your first wage; problem then would be you will be playing catch up for a while.

If food (for the first month) is a problem get on the Old Style board and ask there for ideas for low cost meals.

Once you're on your feet you could join a credit union to save; after a while you would be eligible for a low cost loan.

    Thank you all!

Well I start on the first of june and im very scared I applied for a kitchen porter role but the man interviewing me said he liked how enthusiastic I was and said that he would prefer me on the grill so it's so surreal and honestly It's quite overwhelming I'm currently renting from the council but the link provided said I would be able to claim extended housing benefit for up to 4 weeks.

Just a little message for the currently unemployed here.

I was hospitalized for 3 years and have been unemployed for a further year so that's 4 years without a work it was very hard to find this job and harder for someone to give me the chance

never never give up if someone gave me a chance theres someone out there that will give you the chance Much love everyone xxx

I wish you all the best, you obviously did really well at the interview. This could be the start of something really good for you and you sound like you deserve it. Enjoy the weekend and look forward to the 1st. :)

WHATEVER YOU DO DO NOT GET A LOAN !! THE INTEREST RATES ARE DISGUSTING AND SICK

    1. talk to your landlord or council about the rent - this is not a problem as they will try to come to an arrangement with you - and you can pay later if you so wish to - dont worry about that -

The aversion is largely unfounded perpetuated by loud people with poor financial control. PDLs are one of the most expensive forms of credit, but it is one of the easiest to access. Many people can use PDLs perfectly sensibly, even fewer of those people will ever need to use such expensive credit. In a limited number of cases the cost is worth, one such case would be starting a new job, provided you can budget t pay it back and not take out another one.

If you want to know why not to take out a payday loan go over to the debt free wannabee board. DO NOT take out a Payday loan, especially in yoru current circumstances. Go for the HB extension, maybe speak to your employer as a last resort.

Well done OP, let us know how it goes.
  • ^^Totally agree, possibility of thread when unable to pay:-
Job offer withdrawn, I didn't start / last long / like it to stay
just saying because there has been quite a few threads across this site over recent weeks where people took out payday loans then incurred these problems so bad advise.

OP you really want to get by, sell something or ask family for help, agree with talk to your landlord
Plenty of people do without airy fairy messages of the Jobcentre will help, and remember plenty of people are in your situation who have had no help, it's tough and you are not alone!!!!
