HI everyone I was long term unemployed and today after an interview I was offered a job ( I burst into tears after the call :rotfl: )
the problem is it's a monthly payment at the job and I don't have enough money to last me if I stopped my job seekers allowance and I wont be able to claim housing benefit anymore because I have a job so I wont be able to pay rent.
What happens in this situation?
Thanks for your time

Its possible that you could apply for a 4 week housing benefit extension
Also depending on who your landlord is, as long as you make some payment to your rent, at least you are paying something. My landlord is my local council and the last time I was on JSA it took about 4 weeks to be processed and by that time I was building up rent arrears that I couldnt pay until my housing benefit claim came through.
The worst case scenario is that you'll end up 4 weeks in rent arrears.0 -

Well done for getting the job :T
It would be worth talking to the Job Centre and maybe they can help you out until payday. Also once you have signed your contract with the new job speak to the HR dept. and see if they can help out at all until you get paid. Or, speak to the CAB and see if they have any advice. When do you start?

Congratulations! As others have said see if you can get HB extended and go to the Jobcentre for advice.
I'd think they'd be willing to help you seeing as you'd be coming off benefits, which is what they want for everyone!
Other options
1. Sell something
2. Borrow money from a friend or family member
3. Payday loan
4. Do odd jobs for people0 -
Congratulations OP!
Can't advise, other than check with the job centre to see if there are any back to work benefits.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

I think its the housing office that you would see re the housing benefit extension, council tax extension as well, or first stop shop if there is one in your area, but sure the DWP could let you know where to get the forms.
I used to work with young people in temporary accommodation and we did a lot of applying for HB extensions if they found work.0 -

No! Do not get a pay day loan! :eek:Can't think of anything smart to put here...0 -
The 4 week housing benefit extension I think is the best place to start, it means that your rent and council tax would be paid for 4 weeks after you signed off and until you got your first wage
I agree, payday loans arent the best idea.0
