Best security camera?

I have a second home that has had unwelcome visitors and I would like to add a security camera indoors for some peace of mind.
There is no broadband installed and I'd rather not install one if at all possible as this would not be cost effective.
Is there a CCTV, or better still, a covert camera that would suit a house like this?
I've heard of dummy sockets that call your mobile when they detect sounds - is there a camera equivalent? Maplins say there is nothing you can do without a broadband in place.
Any help welcomed thank you.

of doing this was to link a camera to a VCR,

it might depend on how long you want the recording to be.

Or there are alarm systems with auto diallers (with microphones ) might be an option.

There will also be an option of mobile broadband it it can be triggered by a motion sensor.

Are you saying your looking for a CCTV camera or system that will use a gsm dialler to alert you and send you video or pics. There may be a system out there, but will cost a small fortune.

As said above you can get gsm autodialler, that will alert you with a pre-recorded message is it triggered.

Stand corrected, you can get GSM camera's that are a stand alone system, security camera with gsm, that will alert you with text message and some pics once activated. Do search for gsm alarm or gsm camera

does the house have a wifi neighbour close by? maybe borrow or pay a small fee to use their broadband, sending stills at a slow fps wont use up too much bandwith

You can also get pir security lights which takes images or video when activated which stores onto an sd card.

I've got a wireless alarm system fitted to my house. It has the usual door sensors and 3 PIR sensors positioned so that an intruder can't move without setting one off.

It has has built in GSM and is set so everyone has their own entry code. Every time the alarm is activated or deactivated it sends me an SMS telling me when and who.

If an intruder is detected you can dial the alarm system which auto answers, it doesn't ring, and you can listen. You can also speak so a quick "I can see you, the police are on their way" while not strictly accurate should make them decide to get out just in case.

The system is called Infinity Prime and is easy to install. I bought mine as a bundle, there are all sorts of add-ons like flood detectors, sensors to detect breaking glass, home automation add-ons etc.

I use a PAYG SIM in mine
One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.
  • Many companies offer security cameras that can be self installed. The home security system is sensitive purchase that required some researches before buying like Monitoring services, Security services and its feature. So first of all checked out these things.
