Gas and electric arrears

If money is owed on a gas and electric account, the company wont accept a payment plan If I was to contact another company and set up a new supply would this be a problem, would the new company check the arrears.

This sounds dishonest but I am trying to sort out a bad situation.
Bgas wont accept £150 a month from me to clear the arrears they want full payment of £600 or nothing and have advised me to contact the energy trust fund, as I am in receipt of ESA and DLA.
My worry is if this application get turns down and they wish to fit a pre payment meter I am in breach of my tenancy agreement and could face eviction.
I can afford £150 a month on my gas and electric now I have ESA and DLA in place combined with my partners earnings, so I would pay £100+ to new company and when the debt went to a collection agency I would be able to pay £50 a month to them, I would supply a budget sheet.

I don't know what else to do, I am making myself sick with worry.

  • You are not allowed to switch suppliers with that ammount (£600 ) still in arrears. the limit, I think , is £400 .

Tenancy term about change to prepayment is likely to be an unfair term and unenforcable. Probably. Loads about this......do a google search.

Realistically how would the landlord know?
