Issues with CallCredit reference file

Had an application declined due to my score with callcredit apparently.

Tried to register on their website to see what the problem is, but they apparently can't verify my details.

Have looked at my equifax account and only thing I can see that could cause an issue is a CIFAS warning saying that I was the victim of identity theft on one of my accounts.

Is this likely to be the case and has anyone else had similar issues with callcredit?

I tried to contact them but they seem very poor to deal with.

No its due to your Report not your silly meaningless scores.

The score will be generated by the people offering the credit and not any Credit Reference Agency (CRA e.g. call credit). They may well have used data from the CRA to score you using their own (lenders) scoring system though. They use that along with the details on the application form along with all previous dealings you may have had with them in the past.

Try http://www.noddle.co.uk for call credit data. It's free to check the data there.

If the CRA is refusing you access to your credit file it may be they have no way of verifying who you are. When you registered did they ask for a credit card, and do you have one that is registered to you. They use that data to verify who you are and can sometimes be a problem when you try to register without one.

Additionally I assume you're on the electoral role for the exact address that you gave them when registering.

One other thing a CIFAS Cat 2 marker - Victim of Impersonation - Use, by another person, of this name and/or address should not stop a application dead. They will have to manually check the application though.
  • I also had a problem registering online for a statutory credit file with Callcredit today. I also went through the process and was declined. I thought I must have made typos and tried several times....all declined. I then got telephone calls and also an sms from the fraud dept of my bank. Although I had been declined the £2 fee was taken from my account on each occasion. I explained the situation and they advised me to contact Callcredit immediately. I telephoned but received a message to call back during office hours (Mon-Fri). I then emailed them with full details and asked that somebody call me back asap on Monday. I received an automatic reply informing me that I would receive a response within 28 days as that is the statutory procedure....brilliant service!! I have used Experian on a regular basis for a long time and they are excellent. I also used the `one off` online facility with Equifax today for £2 and this was very straightforward. I decided to look into the history of problems people have had with Callcredit which led me here. I will update these notes once I find out how they respond to my email / phone calls....I have a feeling there might be a few.
