Credit card loss and fraud

Must have carelessly lost my wallet or I was relieved of it in some way. Yes, it contained my credit card and also a little card giving my name and address, email address and phone number. This I included in case of illness or accident. I discovered the loss and phoned to block the card. I was told that a transaction had been made on my card as I was reporting the loss. The charge was £4.95 to some business I had never heard of. Was told that fraudsters make test transactions to see if bigger sums can be spent. Lesson learned. My fault for enclosing personal details in the wallet. I am hoping that the cancellation of my card will stop further fraud. :(

Where there any other cards in your wallet? If so you will need to contact them to. I would be very careful and monitor your credit file as the info these horrible people now have could still be used.

So sorry it is never nice to be a victim of fraud.

Yeah not fun at all. Watch your credit file and keep an eye out for any letters claiming you've been awarded credit, fraudsters unfortunately don't stop at transactions on your card. If anything else suspicious happens, report it immediately.

Not really. It was the fault of the fraudsters. You had very good reasons for enclosing the details and I doubt it had anything to do with the fraudulent transaction. I've returned two wallets to people because there was sufficient personal info in their wallets that I could locate them. Both had cash which they might otherwise have lost.

I hope you were refunded the £4.95??
