PPI Lawyer gone into administration and takeover firm gone AWOL - HELP!

Hi,

I signed up to a PPI claim against Lloyds TSB with a solicitor over 2 years ago.

During that time, the firm had been taken over by a second firm and now again, the second firm seems to have gone into administration and all of their cases have been taken over by a THIRD firm. Worth noting that I was never informed by the second firm of this. I only discovered it when I visited the old firm's website. On their site it states that the new firm will be taking over all current cases.

However, I have been trying to ring this new firm and they are completely unreachable. Have also emailed to inquire about the status of this claim and no one has gotten back to me.

This case has began over 2 years ago (I was initially told it would take only about 9 months) and I'm concerned that it's further damaging my reputation with the bank since there possibly has been no correspondence with the bank from the solicitors on my behalf of recent.

Have tried ringing my CAB but of course they never answer their phones!!

Can anyone suggest on who I can ring to get advice on what to do now? Or if anyone else has had a similar case - what next steps did you take?

Any help or ideas would be appreciated!

The bank wont care what happens to PPI company (who are very unlikely to be solicitors - most solicitors do not get involved in this area and cannot do so in the way claims companies market themselves).

the bank. After all, that is the only company that matters.

  • Ok thanks. Yes I will ring the bank.

I guess I was also hoping to get advice for next steps from a legal point of view - i.e. does it affect my case if I suddenly contact the bank myself (after it having been in litigation for so long)....and if there is some sort of protection for me as someone who has started a claim but it has been halted due to the firm going into administration. I mean do I just forget the contract existed between the solicitor and myself? Surely that would be risky?!

OP, why are you using a claim company? You'll be giving away a large percentage of your claim. Make the claim yourself - there is plenty of information on this site, and others, offering guidance on how to do so.

    Hi,

There are strict rules which prevent solicitors passing on cases to other solicitors without your express consent because the details of your case are bound legal privilege.

I suspect it is not actually a solicitor but a claims company pretending to be one.

  • Thank you both Dunstonh and Alpine Star - this is helpful.

The original firm was a solicitor - a known firm - that had a very public buy out by the other firm. So at least that puts me a bit at ease.

But still not sure about the transferring of the cases without my consent, which I will look into further.

    Thanks again!!!
