May also be beneficial to book it through your doctor, and then if it comes through you could drop the private one. I only had to wait a couple of weeks for physio, but we self refer, and it was mega fast in all honesty

You really do need a physio to advise on the best exercises, as different areas and different problems need to be managed in different ways. But as somebody who's had a lot of back/shoulder/neck issues with postural factors there's a few things that I know I always try to do better now. Firstly try not to spend too much time sitting - I have a desk job and it's easy to end up sitting at the PC for hours on end, so now I do make an effort to get up every 20 mins even if just to stand for a minute or so. Have a chair that supports you well and your desk set out so you're not stretching for things. Mouse should be close by, height should be so that elbows are at around 90 degrees and not reaching forward. Don't cross your legs when sitting. Try to be facing forward - I found in many meetings I was sideways on to the presenter, and at home would be angled when watching TV. Now I make sure I sit facing whatever it is I'm looking at. Those are all things that will help anybody with poor posture but to target the pain better you will need advice from a qualified person
I completely agree with all of this. All the physios I've ever seen/heard of will tell you not to sit still for too long. In hospital, I've heard them exhort post-surgery patients to get up and move every hour, on the hour, at least, even if it's only walking as far as the end of the ward and back. If you put your mind to it, it gets easier to think of e.g. getting up, standing, having a stretch and walking if only a few steps, when the TV ads come on. Thanks for the advice everyone.
I've now seen a physio. I have some exercises to do to strengthen the weaker side and encourage more movement so hopefully it will help. I have another app soon.
I hope she doesn't feel the need to see me too regularly though, it's quite a costly process. I know the Doc can refer you for physio but that can take weeks or months (been there before) and I don't think I could have handled the pain that long, painkillers weren't working and the pain was enough to put me to bed tbh. Just need to see how it goes I suppose.

Just to reassure you we took my daughter to a private physio when she was younger, if I remember correctly it was only three visits, one to assess her and start exercises, than another to see if she was responding and tweak the exercises and then a few weeks later a final appointment where she was told she was doing great and to just keep on with the exercises. We were told to just get in touch if we had any further concerns. With a bit of luck if you do what she has said you might only need one or two more appointments.
Do be careful of some advice people are offering, the back really isn't a one size fits all type of thing. For example by husband has serious back problems and some of the advice you have had would have done him damage in the initial stages. Good luck, hope it responds quickly.Sell £1500

Aliasojo - are you in the Falkirk area? I think Forth Valley's physio service operate a self referral service. I only waited two weeks on an appointment - and didn't have to ever wait that long in the waiting room. Very efficient! The physios there are excellent.

I couldn't even wait 2 weeks anyway tbh, this is like having constant toothache, I almost want to drop a heavy weight on my foot just to take my mind off the pain in my back. Almost......:rotfl:Herman - MP for all!

I had a great result when I saw a chiropractor, don't know if it works for everyone but it did for me. It did take quite a few visits, can't remember exactly as it is 20 years ago but probably more than ten. What I found was I got a great result but it didn't last, they warned me it wouldn't, but every time I went the benefits lasted longer until it was a month between visits and then I stopped going.
I also have suffered from a frozen shoulder (I am started to sound like a walking disaster now) and it was only sorted when I had it manipulated under a general anaesthetic. It hurt like hell afterwards and I had to exercise even though it did hurt but it did a good job in the end. It is hard to work out what to do for the best with these things. I was referred to a specialist and did what he suggested.

I'm going to phone a chiropractor in the morning and see what they reckon.
I may have to go to the doc again and just wait but I'll be hanging round his legs until he gives me stronger painkillers so I can cope with the waiting time.

very few of us stretch enough(myself included) and I know what its like working through pain
