Immersion or boiler

I get up at 3am most days to go to work, so need some hot water for a wash. At the moment I have the boiler on for an hour before hand. I was wondering, because I have economy 7, would it be better for me to get the immersion wired up to a timer and have that on for the hour instead?

Once you take the higher efficiency of an immersion heater into account compared to a gas boiler, there isn't much difference in cost of heating the water by gas compared to low rate electricity.

That means there isn't any real advantage of one over the other. If you have the gas boiler available anyway, I wouldn't bother wiring up the immersion.
