Capquest passed "debt" to Advantis

Hi everyone
I'm having difficulty with Capquest and Advantis and was wondering if anyone could help.
Capquest started sending letters to my husband last year saying he owed money - they did not disclose what for and, wary of giving further information, I sent off the £1 and the Data Request letter. This was recieved by them in October 2012 and I have a screenshot of the signed RM delivery note.
Yesterday we got a letter from Advantis, saying Capquest had passed them his details and he needs to get in touch. I repliedsaying Capquest cannot pass any alleged debt to another company as they have not supplied the data we paid for.
They have replied with the following -
Unfortunately your email did not pass our data protection checks.
In order for us to confirm that we are corresponding with the correct person we require the following information:
Your full address including postcod
Your date of birth
We can confirm that we will hold your account for 14 days to allow time for you receive our letter and to contact us accordingly. Please be advised that if you fail to contact us within 14 days, your account will be automatically returned to our collections process.
...
Am at a loss what to write back. Obciously we are confirming nothing with them. We still don't even know what this debt is for, but if it is something DH accrued it must be from over 6 years ago because since we've been together I've looked after the money - carefully
Any suggestions would be appreciated x

Seems to me Capquest have cut their losses and "sold the debt" to someone lower down the DCA food chain. Follow the advice above and Advantis will probably give up too.0

always makes me smile when they 'demand' information like postcode and dob. Give them nothing. Debt has been sold on, and is in final phase of 'let's see if we can get anything for this old debt'0
