Stone Basin surround has become discoloured

Not sure if this is a DIY problem or not, so please move if appropriate

My bathroom sink surround is made of a crushed stone and pieces of mirror bound together with some kind of resin. I understand that the term engineered stone is applied to this type of material. The surface is highly polished

Overtime the surface around the hot tap has gone a lighter greyish colour. It is not limescale as I have tried limescale remover and there is no fizzing and no difference when I have cleaned the limescale remover off.Things like granite cleaner have also been of no use

The care instructions I received at the time of installation was to use a good wax polish on it regularly, which I have done

I wondered if anyone had come across this before and how they had dealt with it.

Thanks for any suggestions
