tablet phone hybrid question

Hi all. I have 6 months left on a vodaphone contract and my phone has died (cracked screen). I have posted here rather than on the mobile forum as its more a tablet question than a phone one.
I rarely use my phone for calls, usually just use it for surfing, checking emails, pics and vids etc etc and some texting, for that reason I want a large screen. When my contract ends I will search around for the best contract with a decent quality large screen phone but in the meantime.....
I want to only spend about £50 on something to last me the next 6 months or so. I initially was looking at a cheap smartphone like an Alcatel or a Huawei, but I have just learned about tablet/phone hybrids like this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/7-CAPACITIVE-MULTI-TOUC-ANDROID-4-0-IPS-Qualcom-4GB-Phone-ABLET-PC-MID-/400494705509?pt=UK_iPad_Tablets_eReaders&hash=item5d3f583b65
It states it is 3G and has a Google Android 4.0 operating system and a decent screen resolution. Am I right in thinking I can just put my vodaphone contract SIM into it, and use my monthly allowance to surf, and make calls, text? Is it that easy? Can I download apps on it?
Thanks for any advice.

I wouldn't touch it. But that's my opinion

Have you looked up how much a screen would be to replace yourself?
Find out how much it'll cost to buy out the last 6 months of contract
Talk to vodafone and explain broken phone, but you want to upgrade to something else like a Phablet. You might be surprised if you say you'll just dump the contract, and go elsewhere.
If you've come from a decent phone, going to a cheap tablet/phone will hurt (speed, screen size, feel) imo.0
