    He can also say you were sacked for theft in order to get the point across that you are no longer allowed in the shop, which I would be inclined to do.
    Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.

    Over the years I've been unfortunate enough to dismiss a few people for various things, including theft. I'd never dream of discussing it with anyone not connected with it. It's simply not professional to do so.

    When asked where x went, a simple not here any more is sufficient and professional.

    Generally, they are only obliged to say "Dismissed for Gross Misconduct.". It's not something that is going to go down very well in a job interview. ;)
