Over the years I've been unfortunate enough to dismiss a few people for various things, including theft. I'd never dream of discussing it with anyone not connected with it. It's simply not professional to do so.
When asked where x went, a simple not here any more is sufficient and professional.0 -

Generally, they are only obliged to say "Dismissed for Gross Misconduct.". It's not something that is going to go down very well in a job interview.Strictly , he can state 'dismissed for theft' but until and unless it is proven in a court of law or admitted by OP, he puts himself in the wrong if he states 'guilty of theft'
