My partner went in for surgery yesterday. She was under the influence of drugs when she dropped her phone while washing her hands. She believe it did went under the water and phoned me to tell that phone will be turned off. She dried it as much as she could and put it aside.
As battery was running out as well she turned off the phone. Later in evening once i visited her she asked me to put it on charging to see if it charge the phone. It wasn't charging and I brought the phone with me at home. I was just looking at it and smelled some funny burnt smell which means it's short circuited. We don't care about the mobile but our son all day to day pictures are there which are not backed up.

She is very upset with me because she did ask me to save them on hard drive last week. Anyone over here know a way to recover data from non working htc one x or had similar experience and want to share the outcome please. It is insured but most important thing for us are pictures. I am praying that there is some help out there.

Does the phone have an sd card ?

Yes I dont think charging the phone helped although you werent to know this. When this happens you stick the phone in dried rice, not sure about this but removing the battery might be a good idea.

No luck with these mobiles and I am over the fact of losing all the data. Lesson learnt in hard way.

How were the pics and data saved, in the internal memory or on a micro sd card ??

Once dropped in water, remove battery and cards, let dry for as long as you can, rice, airing cupboard or even with dehumidifier.
Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j
  • Well, it's been under water, I don't think it can be recovered.

Encounter a data loss and look for a way to recover data from your HTC One M9, M8, or M7?
I ever performed factory reset on my HTC, as you know, all my data on it is cleared, thus I google how to recover them, then I found one program, here I wanna recommend you-HTC Recovery Mac, for you to recover deleted photos, videos, contacts, call history and more data from HTC one M9/M8 and other HTC devices.
Hope it also works for you.
