Warm Front Discounts discontinuing

Options
A quick heads up,I have been talking to the DWP for my friend who get very confused bless her when talking to 'officialdom', and apparently the Warm Front Discount that some pensioners receive towards their heating costs in addition to the winter fuel allowances is to be discontinued by our caring government so for a lot of people next year it will definitely be a case of heat or eat:mad: at the moment its being phased out by increasing the age limit to only pensioners over 80 and only if there is no savings element in the pension credit.
I suppose its one way of ensuring a cull of OAPs.I am lucky that I can afford to heat my tiny cottage but for a lot of people its onlly going to get worse and another long winter like the last one will probably see mortality rates rising

I'm sorry but I disagree. Pension credits are generous enough (along with the WFA) that there's absolutely no reason for pensioners to need to choose between heating and eating.

I agree. I think it's fair enough, applying this to the 80+ group who are far more likely to suffer from the cold - and be in a poorer group according to some research by AgeUK - than anyone else.

Talking about 'a cull of the elderly' is just rabble-rousing.

Op Warmfront were the people who fitted Central Heating to people on benefits, not just pensioners.
The Warm Home scheme appears to be still running, do you think your friend maybe confused to what exactly she's entitled to.
Have a read of this and see does anything apply to your mate.
