Remote Desktop Connection set-up xp home

back again :o

From what I've read (which may not be saying a lot) RDC is disabled by default on XP home and has to be manually installed,
There are computer and user name entries in the logon settings on the general tab for RDC.
Could anyone please tell me if this should be like this? and if not, how I can go about removing it? (RDC I mean, not the entries :))
I can only find guides on how to install it.

(I have unchecked the box for remote assistance in My Computer properties)

Thank you

XP Home doesn't have the server side, and I don't believe it can be installed. Only remote assistance is available, and if you want to be able to access the machine using RDC then you have to be running XP Pro.

Home can have the client side installed, to connect to machines that do have the server side available. I'm not sure why you'd care whether the client side was present or not: why does that worry you?

It's not my computer. It had some recent problems with the owner of it allowing a phone scammer access to it. Are you saying that it should not have these features? If not, yes I think it would be safer if it was uninstalled

Yes (if it does need to be uninstalled, then) that is very helpful .. thank you Bod. :)

Removing the client side, which is what bod is describing, won't solve any security problems.

Please bear with me, are you saying the client on XP home allows someone else to control it remotely using XP pro?
The "server authentication" option under "advanced" is set to "connect and don't warn me". My worry is that someone that has set this up using XP pro, still has access if "connect" is selected.
I'm rubbish at jargon .. sorry

If you want to remove it its in control panel, add remove programs, turn windows features on or off, uncheck box

    (abridged)

because I'm not sure which way the access is going, it sounds to me like you're saying that someone else with XP pro could offer remote assistance and manipulate the computer.
Or have I got that wrong?

So do the data entries that I asked about in post#1 come pre-filled or is it likely that someone has set these up? The last thing I want to do is give the owner back a computer that is still surreptitiously accessible to someone else with XP pro.
That's what I want to know.. if it's possible for that to happen with the settings I have mentioned in post#6.
Sorry for not being able to make myself very clear.

Unless the phone scammer installed some malware which can establish an outbound connection...
