it wasnt supposed to be like this!

Last July I applied and got a MBNA CC with a limit of 7000, which i used to BT a debt i had.
Since then I have quite happily been paying £5 a month for the priviledge.
Since then I have 'stoozed' 15,000 egg anniversary and 5000 to M&S 6 months 0% too.
I have now paid back egg and I am about to pay back what I owe to M&S.

However, my problem is this. I recently applied for the 18 month cap1 card, they offered me a miserly 'up to' 3000 limit for 6 months.

At the same time i also applied for a virgin card, so i could carry on paying the minimum payments of £5 a month for another 9 months.
BUT...virgin have turned me down completely saying that they 'reviewed' my accounts with them (of course they noticed the mbna original deal)
I was going to do a BT to egg from mbna when the deal ran out and then bt it back to virgin...but it seems my cunning plan has failed.

I think I know the answers to this, but would like your opnions.
To me, it seems that the reason virgin turned me down is quite obviously because of the mbna debt, but could it also be that according to my credit file it may still look like i owe a lot of money to egg and m&S?

what can i do with my mbna debt, if a new card is not an option at the moment? I could try and arrange a life of balance deal with a current card company....?

I'm open to any suggestions....

MBNA have recently been tightening up on people applying for more cards within the same group. That could be why your Virgin application was rejected. Besides you would not have been allowed to BT from one type of MBNA card to another (although you could have done it via another card).

If your total debt looks big in relation to your income and credit rating then you may have too much debt to get new cards.

Ideally you should pay off your existing cards and cancel them, wait a month to make sure the CRAs have been updated, then apply for new ones.

However bearing in mind your username that might not be an option. When struggling to get credit cards your own bank is often the best option if you haven't tried them already. Provided you have managed your account with them ok they will usually be willing to give you a credit card with a higher limit than anybody else.

Failing that you will have to look for other places to shift the debt such as a loan. It is always a danger with 0% credit cards that you won't be able to keep it going. For that reason it is best not to apply for too many to improve the chances of being able to switch to new cards.

It IS getting harder to stooze !

Ive got 10 cards stoozed and its increasingly getting difficult to shuffle the debt i.e. as per many of the card companies tightening their rules.

Its getting to the point I only go looking for, for spending 0% cards, as either I would only get a small limit with the Bt card or the charges are too high, or like the MBNA group like virgin may get rejected so not much point whilst the MBNA card still exists.

Gettign a lot harder....................... but still possible.

    I agree Andrea!!!

I wasnt trying to BT from my mbna straight to Virgin - I know better than that.

I think for now I'm going to have to sit tight for a while, transfer the debt from mbna to an existing card with the lowest rate possible and then BT it to egg when my anniversary period starts in November.

Yes, I guess Andrea is normally a girl's name in this country. I'll concede that one too.

But we are way off topic now!
