Barclays Bank PPi by debit card

Hi,
I am looking for advice.
I have a recollection of Barclays Bank taking a form of insurance directly from my bank using my debit card to take payment.
The payment was for some form of PPI, that was sold to me over the telephone by someone representing barclays. I received a call from a Barclays representative, and they offered me the insurance, I said that I didn't want it, but then they said they had given me a month or two for free, and that I could cancel easily. I didn't cancel, because I couldn't find out how to and in all honesty forgot all about it. This happened in around the year 2000, and I only cancelled it in around 2004/05
I am just wondering if this rings any bells with anyone, I am not even sure 100% if it was PPI. When I cancelled, the lady in the bank did say something along the lines of "They shouldn't be allowed to do this". To cancel it the lady had to cancel the debit card payment as there was no way of finding out exactly who the payment was two. There may have been two of these payments a month, and it/they were both around £10.
Sorry for being so vague.
Thanks for any help.
Regards
Dave

it is highly unusual for a bank to use debit card for payment of one of their insurances. Are you sure it was not direct debit? To cancel it the lady had to cancel the debit card payment as there was no way of finding out exactly who the payment was two.
The bank would not have been able to cancel the debit card payment. Only direct debits or standing orders.
The only thing I can think of that would be paid by card would be something like sentinal or other card protection. Not PPI.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Thanks for the reply.
The unusual thing is I seem to recall the caller telling me they were somehow connected to barclays, but it could have been barclaycard I suppose. Could they have charged it as a card payment if I didn't actually want the insurance. I can't believe that I would have given my card details to a cold caller.
Thanks again
