If your daughter's course is not covered by the DSA, the university will hopefully help through the Access to Learning Fund. I received help with transport costs through the ALF, not because I was not eligible for the DSA, but because the disability support officer said it was a much easier application! x

Edit: Also, my application was not means assessed.
    Gone ... or have I?

I think you can not get DSA on foundation courses. But there must be help through Access to learning funds.

Tooting is great! the high street is a lovely bustling busy place full of fruit & veg markets/shops and discount shops as well as a big Sainsburys and a Primark - if she's a moneysaver she'll be in 7th heaven there, i love my weekly trips down to Tooting from where I live (just up the road in Balham). Its a friendly area with a fairly high proportion of Asian families and Eastern European immigrants as well as the whole social spectrum of Brits/Londoners too, quite happily living together. There's a lot to do and there's plenty of green space around, and just up the road is Clapham with a good night life and a million 20somethings. she'll have a great time there.
  • I was diagnosed as dyslexic while at uni. I got an apple mac for my course and a dictaphone as well as help with printing costs and cartridges. It all came from my local LEA
  • Yeah you need to contact your local LEA. They are really helpful with sorting it out. My friend got a laptop, printer and some support sessions and £40/year of uni for printer cartridges.
  • My daughter is dyslexic and has just started a college course (age 17) would she be entitled to anything to help her?

    Thank you.
  • I was awarded the DSA for a seperate disability and got a lovely little laptop. Plus a book & photocopying allowance and also a mentor. It's a bit of a long winded situation, but you apply then you have an "interview" to assess your needs.
