Installation of gas meter

My house used to have a gas supply but the previous owner had the meter was taken out and the pipe capped off.
I'm changing from the electric storage heaters that were in the house, to gas central heating and have arranged for Utility Warehouse (who I use for electricity and will be using for gas) to install a gas meter. On their letter giving me a time for this to be done they say: Unless otherwise stated there is a charge for all meter work you ask us to carry out inculding new connections and exchanges.

Does anyone know how much I should expect to pay? I'd have thought they'd be glad to get my custom and do it for free.

they requested a live dead test?
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

not if it's a dead line they won't do it free which it will be if the supply has been capped for more than 12 months
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

If over 12 month, bet its dead at the road. In which case you need to contact the transporter first

chances are supplier has not arranged a live or dead check so call your gas transporter (if you say what town you live in on here either I or someone else can tell you that is) and ask for a live or dead check to be done, they will need 2 working days notice and prefer to do them on working days as the engineers do these in between gas emergency jobs, - also if the pipe is indoors they will need access to property to do it,

Ask for a reference number when booking the job, if pipe live then the supplier should ask for this as proof that the pipe has been checked. If dead then should wish to use gas you need to have a new supply put in and that is chargeable, it would be worth getting a quote from the network for this - as if supplier arranges no doubt they will add their costs on top,
I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.

In general yes going direct to the network should be best value, however sometimes going via a gas supplier can work out cheaper for the actual connection cost, and if you agree a minimum contract with them they can make that money back through the cost of the gas they sell you.

Get quotes from both the network & at least one supplier and compare!

Thank you. There is a gas supply to the pipe leading into house--heating engineer who's doing the central heating checked at Utility Warehouse's request.
