Car Giant - usually overpriced and higher mileage.
No V5 - avoid for all the reasons mentioned already.0 -

The notes on the V10 form say that you need the V5C, the notes on the V62 form say that you cannot tax the vehicle if you are not the registered keeper.0 -
Just assuming that you are crazy enough to go through with this, replacing the V5 (logbook) costs £25 if you don't have the new keeper supplement of the V5, and takes several weeks as the DVLA write to the registered keeper asking if it is kosher, and then send them a fine for not informing them of a new keeper! (as well as one for not insuring or taxing it)I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

Ok everyone - a quick update.
Purchased the vehicle this afternoon and got it taxed as well.
Went to the DVLA Office and hardly took 5 minutes to get it taxed! Ofcourse the V5C would be sent within 3-4 weeks is what I have been informed by the clerk at DVLA.
Submitted the V10, V62 along with MOT Certificate, Insurance, Proof of Id etc and that's it!0 -

I have got the vehicle taxed for 1 year this afternoon :-) So I can say with definite authority that V10, V62 is all that you need along with other things that I mentioned in the post above.
This particular vehicle was an ex-motability one and the V5C was marked as "passed to trade"
I also noticed another document from DVLA website which basically said that the car could be taxed at the local DVLA office.0 -
Why would you ask if it's OK, if you were just going to do it anyway despite being told it's risky?
Hope it was a bargain to make up for it, good haggling material0 -
Just for everyone's reference : Here is the link for DVLA's Vehicle Enquiry: https://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/app/home/beginvehicleenquiry
I was curious to search for the above link as I noticed there was a printout of DVLA Vehicle Enquiry page..and the last line said : This vehicle can be licensed at a DVLA Local Office without the V5C Registration Certificate :-)0 -

I was ready to walk-off the sale any moment! But then there was another clause on the sale order which said that Car Giant accept the responsibility for Cat A, B, C, D, Insurance write off, stolen , outstanding loan etc etc..
I was looking for solid facts and the comments above were quite educational for me! I looked up terms like "logbook loans" and how they operate etc..
Lastly, this is not in any way eulogising Car Giant..But just that this particular car that I was looking for ..with the criterion that I had..wasn't available anywhere else. they did try to sell me Gap Insurance, GARDx, AA Guarantee/Warranty etc etc..and I declined all of that..
Lets hope that the car serves me well..And thanks again guys for all your comments and suggestions!
Hopefully this thread would serve as a ready reckoner for anyone else going through the same dilemma that I had..0
