I help at a rainbows group, for the promise night the parents come in for the last 10 minutes to see the promise but also are asked to join in our songs. (we would often do 1 or 2 plus the rainbows goodbye song, the girls doing their promise will often pick the song. We have done the promises away from the hall the odd time but still follow the same thing.
For those leaving rainbows often as its the end of a term we would have a party with a craft theme (hat, mask or simular) and small amount of snack party food. Again they would pick the songs for that night.0 -
The girls are asked to come up with ideas of what they would like to do. Cooking, Craft, Games etc. They do these, then the parents arrive and the promise is said then they all go home.0

We have a little poem that we made up, to make it a bit more special.
'Mix the raindrops and the sun,
Your Rainbow journey has begun'
The Rainbow then walks across the circle, stepping on pictures of a cloud, raindrops, and a sun. She stands on a rainbow to make her Promise.
When moving up, we have a similar poem:
'Your Rainbow journey has come to an end,
But do not worry, our Rainbow friend.
Up to Brownies you now go,
Rainbows goodbye, Brownies Hello!'
The Rainbows are in a line facing a line of Brownies. the Rainbow who is leaving walks to the mid point in between, turns, and waves to the remaining Rainbows. Then she turns towards the Brownies, who hold out their hands to welcome her.
For both ceremonies, parents are invited to watch.

I'm a brownie leader but I attend rainbow "graduations".
Our girls are welcomed to brownies by a group of brownies, me and usually snowy owl too.
Our kids move up when there's a gap (I've a waiting list as long as my arm) so I usually pitch up at the start of the rainbows session, they take advantage of having me there to do something messy like making a banner, decorating biscuits etc and mums appear 15 mins before the end, the girls have a sing song and the graduates jump "over the rainbow". At this point I'll give them a brownies t-shirt and their first brownie badge (their 6 emblem).
I like being there because it allows mums to see me and get to know me before their kids move up and I get to know the girls a bit too.
Oh and the graduate usually poses for a photo with the other girls. I'm sure this gets posted out to mum as a keep sake.0 -

Great ideas! I'm a Brownie Leader and we seem to have lost some of the old traditions that we used to have when I was a Brownie. When I tell our girls how we 'Flew Up to Guides', being jumped over the toadstool towards a group of Guides, leaving the Brownies behind, they ask if we can do it! We don't even have a toadstool.

Anyway, have you seen the Guiders Forum - really useful for ideas.:)"No matter how little money and how few possesions you own, having a dog makes you rich." - Louis Sabin0 -
Plenty of suggestions and advice for us Guiders here http://www.guiders.co.uk/forum.phpFat and proud lol0
