How is the EA doing an excellent job? Oh yes, by not allowing people to view etc!

Errrr , he has managed to secure asking price offers before someones even stepped through the door ? with the very real proposition of well OVER the AP ?

I would put in an offer at the price that you'd be happy to buy it for, be it £200 or more. You can always pull out later. Sorry but if the estate agent won't let you view it then he must face the possibility that you'llRetract the offer if you discover something in person that was not apparent from the video. He sounds like a dumb estate agent to encourage people to bid without viewing.
    Good luck though!

You are being treated like a mug. The EA is creating phantom rival bids that don't exist. Don't fall for it.

Thanks for your comments guys. Some helpful, some rude.

We went to view today and surprise surprise it was a group viewing. The house needs a lot of work but nothing I can't do myself and nothing structural as far as we can see.

It was a different EA doing the viewing and I overheard him telling people that he didn't think there were any offers yet!!

So, in light of that, and your comments, we're leaving our bid at asking price and not getting back to the estate agent, we're going to wait for them to call us. I think when someone said the offers are made up you're probably right.

So, we went to see the house on Saturday. We had a step back from it all afterwards, and decided that despite it being a good investment, the time we would have to spend doing it up would be too much with getting married and both working 9 - 5/Mon - Fri and being tight on money it would also stretch us financially.

I didn't ring the EA. They must have been waiting for me to call all day today as they rang at 17:30 and told us again they had a higher offer and asked if we'd thought about increasing our offer. We pulled out, so I'm hoping that if they were lying about the other offers, then we have taught them a lesson. Probably not...
