Facebook's "Add your phone number" banner.

Directly above my Facebook banner appears a "Add your phone number to help secure your account" banner.

Obviously I have no intentions of adding my number, but I cannot for the life of me remove the banner. I have tried closing it using the "x" button, I have even tried inserting a false number in the field but nothing I do seems to work.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can remove this banner from my Facebook wall?

    It works once it verifys your number until then it stays and annoys you when you login

    It went away for me. I haven't added a number and it has gone. I didn't do anything, just ignored it.

    I think I clicked a close mark on the left hand side, and it went away (famous last words ... )

    The closed icon is there on the left, but for some reason its not active for me. Saying that, even the phone number field remains inactive, its as if the banner itself has frozen. Even a reboot does nothing to resolve the issue.
