Manchester airport-Taxi ripoff

Manchester airport has got to be one of the worst in Europe.

It appears that they do not allow or permit open competition when it comes to taxis. They have their own arrangements with black cabs and their preferred private hire company.

Any other private hire company that wishes to pickup a passenger who has booked them must go park in the car park £2.80,walk on foot to get their passenger then return to the car.

My local taxi co charges £14.00 for an airport trip.Arrow cars, their in house taxi charges over £20.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

This is less of a markup than charged by the official taxis at Gatwick airport. (A company called "Checker cars.").

They charge £16.50 from the airport to my house (about 5 miles), and the local cab companies do the same journey for £8.00 although private cab companies can pick you up at the airport without having to park first.

For all those looking to hire their own private hire cab from Manchester airport,to avoid their draconian ripoff practices, simply take the skywalk to the rail station and have your cab pick you up there where Manchester Airport have no jurisdiction.

Not defending anyone but, no doubt, their "own arrangements" means a hefty fee payable by the "preferred partners" which has to be recovered somehow.
  • Agree with shaun. Gatwick taxis are absolutely disgraceful. For gatwick the only people to use are Roadrunners UK.

Most airport's are the same. At Gatwick Roadrunners have to text you when they're outside, as they aren't allowed into the Terminal. I'd be surprised if you'll find an airport other than Southend that's nice to private firms.

Yes, I got caught by the Gatwick taxi cartel a few months ago. Not using the airport very often I was unfamiliar with their arrangements. A taxi to a nearby hotel was £20. Coming back using a firm booked by the hotel it was half that price.

I suppose a coffee or beer is the same inside the airport as outside.
Of course not. Because all companies have to pay for retail space and the preferred taxi company will be no different.

    Sh*t!

Imagine finding the words Rip-off and Taxi in the same post!
    Who'd have thought it.

We use Metro all the time to & from the airport. They charge a fixed fee and pick you up from departures where there are no charges "simples"

Incidentally... you can do the same at Birmingham!
