For good mileage I'd be looking at 40,000 or under based on an average of 10k per year.

Well yes but.....look really close at the interior and make sure there is only 25,000 miles worth of wear on the carpets, seats, etc!

not as simple as how many miles its done but depends more on the type of mileage rather than total mileage.

By this i mean a car which has completed 40k on a motorways will be mechanically in better shape than one which has done 10k pottering around town knackering most items from interior, brakes, clutch, gearbox, engine, bodywork... you get the idea!

Ideally you should go for a car which has had an easy life not a shopping trolley

If it's a 1.0 or a 1.2 then check the sound of the engine at idle as the timing chains on them can be quite noisy. 1.8 and 1.4 of that age will have a cam belt. Gear linkages and steering racks are common faults on Corsas so check that you're happy with the gearchange and that it steers OK.
  • thanks. it's an automatic 1.2.

Check to see if its has "Full service history" - not necessarily 100% by the main dealer.

You can afford to be picky with Corsas, as they are huge sellers so don't just buy the first one you see as there are thousands of them out there.

The EasyTronic one? (automatic/clutchless manual) Won't have the gear linkage problem but make sure no funny noises or behaviour from the gears as the motors in the gearbox can go and are quite pricey to repair.
