Housing benefit form

I've just spent the last hour trying to figure out the housing benefit form. Has anyone else found it rather confusing?

Also once sent in how long does it take to gain a response?

Each council has it's own HB form, although they are all fairly similar. Which bits are you having problems with?

The timescales depend on the council - some are quicker than others, and on the complexity of your claim / need for extra info/evidence.

Essex are very quick, within the week. But somehow they always manage to get the award wrong.

I bet its the DWP 32 page evil form - if so go to the local council and get their own one - probably half the length

Most forms aims are to get details of who you are and who lives in the property - and requires sufficient proof of ID and N Ins to verify that

They need to know who earns what and how much other income is generated by the occupiers and how much you all have put away as savings - plus they need to see bank statements to verify the income you say you are getting

They need to know what the property is - how many rooms etc and whether the rent is fair for the property

Lastly they need to know who will get the money if benefit is awarded and want signatures so they can claim it all back later if you fibbed in the form

Thank labour for making it so long winded lol
