Unauthorised overdraft

Hiya,

I have a student account with Halifax, I've reached my 0% overdraft limit (2750) and have to pay 1,600 to estate agents for my new flat, i do already have 700 of it, but there's no way to get the rest.

I'll be paying by my card on chip and pin (Visa) and i was just wondering if it'll go through and just go onto an unauthorised overdraft, or whether it just won't go through. Does anyone have any idea?
I will be able to pay the fees and interest and it all off next month, however i can't at the moment and can't wait due to reservation fees.

Any clue anyone?

Thanks!
x

Call them and ask :) For £700, it almost certainly won't go through - I think they'll check your available funds for amounts over £100.

Definitely ring them, because doesn't your overdraft often increase year on year? They might agree to give you next year's increase sooner rather than later. If you're very lucky!

How soon do you have to pay it? Is there time to apply for a credit card? Even if you have to put this bill half and half ...

it definately won't go through 900 pounds is way too much (you might have been able to get away with a couple hundred)

Your best best is try to increase the overdraft or look at some other way of raising the money (credit card, 2nd student account etc)
  • Go to your bank and tell them the situation. They may agree to give you a loan that you can pay back over a few months. They have been known to do this before.
  • Thanks everyone, really appreciated it!
