Pestering Mortgage Broker?

Comments

  • We're even more fed up now :(

Mortgage Broker insisted on Friday that he had some more important documents for us to sign before he could send off our mortgage application, and apparently they would take a while to complete. So we arranged for him to bring us the forms with the intention that the application would then be able to be sent off by Tuesday morning.

The appointment was today - only one of the 'important documents' he brought for us to sign was for the mortgage, the rest were all insurance he was trying to sell us. I specifically asked him what he was bringing over for us to sign when I talked to him on Friday and he only mentioned documents to do with the mortgage application. If I'd have known there was only one document to sign for the actual mortgage, I would have made an appointment to go over there and sign it on Thursday.

I am beyond fuming that our Broker has held up our mortgage application by 4 working days, in order to try and flog us insurance.
Never again will I use Countrywide.

    Countrywide;-

    - has a small panel of lenders and isn't whole market
    - charges clients a fee and receives commission from lenders
    - uses lenders who supply survey work to their survey arm
    - pushes its expensive in-house conveyancing service
    - has a single tie for life and health insurance products
    - has a single tie for "general" insurances.

I cannot see what the consumer gets from them that couldn't be achieved cheaper and more effectively elsewhere.

I wish you'd said it was Countrywide sooner. The view of national estate agency advisers in general and Countrywide in particular is not good on here.

Please remember, insurance products carry a statutory cooling-off period, so you get to cancel in the first thirty days without it costing you a penny.

Thank you so much for the reply! And for the advice on the cooling-off period. I think we are going to cancel the policies as today was the first time we were provided with the T&Cs and the breakdowns of what the cover entails - then we were kind of stuck in a corner so signed without really discussing the matter.

We are also now having another problem in that our broker is being evasive about whether or not our mortgage is actually being sent off tomorrow. When asked to confirm that it is definitely going off tomorrow morning he said 'We will definitely get it started tomorrow but I'll have more stuff for you to sign' which seems odd as surely once an application is completed and sent off, it is with the lender and that is that? Is that normal? Or does that sound like he hasn't actually got our application finished at all and is feeding us a load of rubbish? :(

We are considering going back to another mortgage broker we saw before instructing our current guy, explaining our situation and seeing if he thinks he can get this done any sooner. Does this sound stupid? If he could get this done quicker and guarantee it would be back with us by Mid-late June, we'd be willing to pay a premium.

I can see no reason why your application is being delayed so long, TBH. Seek another opinion.
