Why do some bus companies only accept that students are 18 and under!!
My daughter is doing a two year course and has turned 19 today, consequently she will not longer receive any kind of student discount!
That means we/she has to find an extra £40+ per term for the same journey, to the same course at college.
It's so frustrating, they do discount for a long journey say Oxford to London but nothing local - very disappointing.

because it is what it is?
Can she not fund the extra?Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0 -
Your daughter has to join the adult world sometime.0

Thanks for the 'advice', not.
I am perfectly aware that she is considered an adult, but as a full time student she is still in education and it's unfair that she can't have some form of discount.
We currently fund her travel & course costs as she only works part-time due to her course commitments.0 -
Can she get a 16-25 railcard? As a 19 year old student myself, I understand how frustrating it is, but there's really not much else to be done. A 16-25 railcard is great, though, saves me a lot of money travelling home from uni.Undergrad law student. Take my advice with a pinch of salt! :rotfl:0

Oh, oops, just noticed that it's the bus you want. Have you looked into any govt funding schemes? When I went to college I used to get 1/2 off on bus fares, but not sure if that's just for under 18s.Undergrad law student. Take my advice with a pinch of salt! :rotfl:0

Round here, student/young people cheap fares on buses finish at the end of year 11 (age 16). Those needing the bus to get to sixth form have to pay adult fare. So maybe your daughter was lucky to have got a discount as long as she did.
Sorry I know that's probably not what you want to hear. It's rubbish, I agree. Another annoying thing is that they have to pay full prescription and dental charges after 19. At least they don't have to pay Council Tax.0 -

So she isn't really having to pay more, you are. Way of the world Im afraid. Perhaps you could buy a weekly or monthly pass.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
We fund her because she can't afford it. She doesn't qualify for a grant.
We do have train services but they aren't frequent enough, or start early enough - small line0
