Law Society rules prevent a solicitor from acting for buyer and seller unless there is some commonality (eg sale from father to son, transfer of property under a will, etc), so what you suggest would not be possible under current rules. There have been proposals to loosen these restrictions but AFAIK nothing has changed as yet.
Interestingly licenced conveyancers ARE allowed to act for both seller and buyer. Apparently the average time take is almost half when the same conveyancer acts for both, compared to where each party is separately represented.I'm a retired employment solicitor. ...... in a normal transaction, the solicitor verifies that he is dealing with another bona fide lawyer and from that point knows he can trust stuff he recieves from that solicitor...
