Nissan has said it plans to recall about 841,000 vehicles worldwide due to a faulty steering wheel.
In the UK, the recall will affect 133,869 models of the Nissan Micra, built between 2002-2006 in Sunderland.
Nissan said that a bolt used in the steering wheel was not screwed on properly, but that there was no danger of sudden failure.
The carmaker said that it will fix the issue by tightening the bolts or replacing steering wheels entirely.
So far, no accidents involving the cars have been reported, Nissan said. But drivers will notice if the steering wheel is getting loose, the company added.
A Nissan spokesperson in the UK said that the repair would take about 15 minutes.
The remainder of the global recall affects the Cube, produced in Japan between 2002-2006. The Cube is not on sale in the UK.
Earlier this month, Nissan recalled 500,000 vehicles globally over a defect in passenger airbags.

My daughter drives a Nissan Micra that falls into this category. What is the advice to owners of these vehicles, just take them into a dealership to be fixed?0

What's with all these manufacturers who are having to recall cars, seems to be happening a lot more frequently now.0

It's been going on for years, just with the massive recalls from Toyota/Lexus, the press picks up on them all now. Generally people just get a letter through the post to book it in or the car gets sorted when it is next serviced and no one is the wiser.
That and they are scared of law suits.

Yeah I got one of those from Renault about the bonnet catch on my old clio, nothing in press about it.0

Nissan say it should only take about 40 minutes for the work to be complete, so guessing you just book it into a dealership and they will do it. Just tightening up some bolts.0

Thanks, I'll give them a ring now and try and get booked in.0 -

I remember watching a whole segment about that on watchdog or one of those shows like that - so it was definitely in the press.

It instils faith that firstly their cars are still going after so many years (when did you last see Renault/Peugeot vehicles of that age on the road?) and secondly that they care enough about customers' safety to take the PR hit and issue a voluntary recall. The same applies to Honda and Toyota who recently issued recalls for "old" vehicles.
As we know from BBC Watchdog, Renault (as an example) actively tried to cover up the fact that that Clio bonnets were springing open and smashing through windscreens while customers were driving at motorway speeds.
Only after they had sacked an employee for raising concerns within the company (because Renault cares about safety
) did that employee speak to Watchdog and thus catalyse a recall. And yet people still buy Renaults... 0 -
