Confused on PPI - 1 paid back another not.....

Hi
I recieved a letter from the Nationwide BS stating that I may have been misold PPI on loans and credit card and to reply if I had a concern. I did so and sent a standard letter outlining my concerns, I then recieved a letter back stating that they were upholding my claim for the loans taken out in 2007, 2010 and 2012. I have been sent a form to sign and have been awarded £1148.68 in final settlement. All this is going through and about to go into my account.
I then recieved another letter saying that they were reviewing my case for PPI . When I queried this stating that one had already been approved , they said it was for another loan in 2004.
I gave them the relevant details and I have now had a letter regarding this PPI claim stating that I requested that PPI be added, I was 41 years old and should of made provision for the loan. I cannot remember adding this, I always believed that you had to have this, did not know that interest was paid on it and in fact was unemployed during the time of this load and did not claim on it as I did not know I had it and borrowed the money to pay the loan until I returned to work.
I cannot understand how the one claim has been upheld and the one I knew nothing about until they contacted me has not.
Could someone advise how to proceed.
Thanks

The first one is probably an auto payout (not investigated). Its that sort of figure where auto payout is common. The second one may be above their floor limit and investigated.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
So can I appeal ?0

They will have sent you a full and final response with details of how to refer (not appeal) your case to FOS. Be aware the process takes over a year.So can I appeal ?
Do note that you cannot refer on the basis that one complaint was upheld and the other not. You were invited to complain if you felt the PPI was mis-sold, but there was no guarantee that they would find in your favour. These invitations are being sent out by banks mainly to set a time limit on complaints.0
