Renting - admin fee

I may be moving to a house which is no damage deposit, first month half price rent and a admin fee of £250. I spoke to the agents and said about my bad credit history but that I have always paid my rent and can prove that and they said as long as I'm honest it shouldn't be a problem - should I pay the admin fee and hope that's the case or might they still decline it ? How much do letting agents look into the credit history ?

Thanks

The LA won't make the decision, the LL will (though they may delegate it, most don't at this stage).

Normally a third party referencing agency will be used to supply your credit information. They will likely also produce a 'recommendation' based on their own standards, which a LL may or may not take notice of depending on whether they want to understand the details or not.

If you have bad credit you can improve your chances by having a guarantor and/or paying 6m rent up front.
