Husband ran up bills - who is liable?

Why on earth do people post incorrect stuff like this ?
Just guessing and then stating a guess as fact is at best irresponsible -unless you get some kind of kick out of misleading people-in which case some professional help might be useful.
OP bills in your husbands name (alone)are HIS bills- but as you've had such conflicting advice I can understand you not knowing who to believe-in which case make an appointment at your local CAB andd they will confirm for you.
I haven't posted advice about the liability of the debt at all, I have posted my opinion based on what I have been lead to believe; I have also tried to find a hard-and-fast answer by researching alsewhere and I have failed.
However this may not have ben aimed at me; I know others have posted that they feel OP is liable.
I do beleive, from my own experience, that if a partner defaults on debts, in some cases those chasing the debt will attempt to 'persuade' the party remaining in the property to pay off those debts, if for no other reason than they are the tenant in that property.
This bit is fact though -
However IF the OP DOES pay off these debts she SHOULD keep a record of what she pays because, just as assetts of a marriage are split on separation, so are the debts. If the OP is able she can pay off the debts and then reduce any assett split if and when they are divorced accordingly.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016
