Hi
i have a sony ccd trv208e pal hi8 camcorder that ive found with a few tapes, id like to transfer the content onto my laptop and burn them to dvd.
the output connectors on the camcorder are s-video out and a/v out. my laptop is hp g6.
i understand that i need a capturing device, most seem expensive (like dazzle with pinnacle software at over £50) so will some thing like this work?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB-2-0-VHS-To-DVD-Converter-Video-And-Audio-Capture-Card-USB-Video-/321102591053?pt=UK_Computing_TV_Tuner_Video_Capture_Devices&hash=item4ac334b44d
will it be a simple case of plugging usb to laptop, install software, then using the a/v out connect from camcorder to this adaptor and follow instructions? im not looking to edit/cut or anything fancy, just a direct trasnfer from my hi8 to laptop to dvd.
Thanks

If all you want to do is put them on DVD with no editing, the easiest way is to get a standalone DVD recorder. There's many of these on eBay with analogue tuners going cheap now that the digital switchover has completed.
All you'll need will be a lead to connect camcorder to recorder, and one to go from recorder to your TV for monitoring.0 -
^^ This.
USB doesn't really have the bandwidth to capture video at any decent quality, Firewire was better for this and I am lucky that my DV camcorder had analog pass-through so I could digitise my analog tapes through that.
Even if you want to edit the video it's better to copy it directly onto a DVD then import the DVD files into your video editor and go from there.Out on blue six..

can you give me some links to make sure im looking at the correct ones?
something like this? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Samsung-DVD-R122-DVD-Recorder-/290919123964?pt=UK_AudioTVElectronics_Video_DVDPlayers_Recorders&hash=item43bc218bfc
as long as they have
Analog Audio x 2, Composite x 1, S-Video, Component
is that what im looking for?0 -
I can't see what your linking to because I can't follow Ebay links at work but i'm assuming it's one of the EZcap usb plug in things with the 4 wires dangling out. They get very variable reviews on Amazon, sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. I can only suggest try it and see.
And yes, you just plug the A/V wires in, any video editing software will have a capture capability so just hit 'capture' and 'play' on the camcorder and hopefully you'll get video, and sound, with no frames dropped. Good luck!Out on blue six..
