Sending large item by courier?

I listed a sideboard for my mum (collection only) which didn't sell in the auction which has just ended. I did receive a message from someone who wants to buy but it would need to be sent to him by courier at his cost because he is 400 miles away.
So how do we do this where I am protected? And how on earth do we package a sideboard and sort out a courier?

Frankly unless this is worth a great deal of money I wouldn't bother. You will either have to arrange a man with a van type of thing and ensure he still has online tracking for paypal purposes, however they are likely to be several hundred pounds for that sort of mileage.
Any sort of courier is going to need it boxed securely or on a pallet- and that still ecomes complicated as you would remain liable for damage if buyer opended a SNAD claim.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Get non reclaimable payment (cheque/po or bank transfer or cash on collection) from him and tell him to send someone to pick it up.
There really isn't any way of being covered if you use Paypal and they send a private courier..0 -
This happened to me recently when a large item I had specifically listed as Cash on Collection only was won by a buyer who lived 200 miles away and wanted to send a courier.
Following advice on here I requested they pay by bank transfer not paypal and they then sent the courier. Mind you when I saw how their courier flung it in the van I was concerned there might be some comeback but haven't heard anything!0 -
We had this too. The buyer wanted to arrange a man and van - so I asked that they pay by bank transfer which they did. I explained why I didn't want to accept paypal and they understood. There were no problems and they gave good feedback.0

About the only thing I can think of is getting a https://www.parcelmonkey.co.uk sameday service, or sticking it on a pallet and getting speedshift to move it (cheaper) https://www.speedshift.co.uk if it has to be PayPal, otherwise I'd be old fashioned and ask for a cheque, wait for it to clear. Nice and simple.0
