6 month gas bill on pay as billed

As the title says, I am not complaining the amount of the gas its actual reads so no complaint there however... we moved in on oct 2012 and just got "our first bill" in may thats 7 months gas bill given to us with under 14 days to pay.

My potential resolve and whilst I would love the ideas of others is to offer a portion of the bill upfront Ie 3 months and then the rest in installments as according to the site you are meant to get a bill every three months when there is no DD.

We would then offer to set up a DD based on usage + some more to help pay off the debt, what we could not do is pay the full bill without financial ruin being honest.

Which supplier are you with ?
Most suppliers will default to 6 monthly billing if they are not given meter readings by the customer at shorter intervals

If you phone in or report your meter readings online every 90 days or so, most suppliers will bill each time they get them.
  • We are with N power, and we had readings taken when we moved in of course and also also actual readings taken in Feb and also in May so I am unsure as to why they didn't bill us in Feb/March for a quarter.

Npower bill you every six months. This has been done for quite a while.

You are free at no extra cost to make an interim payment if you like.

I am unsure as to why you have opted for a pay on receipt of bill tariff from nPower, especially as it appears receiving a large, occassional bill leaves you in "financial ruin"

Also most nPower tariffs offer a huge discount for paying monthly by DD (about £100 a year is typical)

    More helpfully :

Of course you can resolve the situation using either of your remedies.

Let's face it, you will, obviously, easily have more than half the money to hand (since you were planning to pay a winter's quarterly bill in one go (weren't you?)). So you can then pay that and inform them the balance will be paid with a few more instalments. Or you can switch to direct debit.

The 'within 14 days' is just an automatic form letter. As long as you contact them with a reasonable alternative they will be happy.

    Hi stuartroney,

As mentioned - a number of npower's tariffs are billed 6 monthly, so this may be why the bill took a little longer than you expected.

If you'd like me to check this over for you and see what options we have for payment, just pop me your details to forumresponse@npower.com

    Best wishes,

    Adam :)
