OP, what period of time are we talking about regarding the withdrawals? How long was she living with her brother before she died?Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

Was just about to ask the same question ^0

They did have POA but they wrote cheques for all sorts of personal use , bills for their house, rates, electric, gas, new garden, painting and decorating £40,000 !!!!! This can't be right !!!!
Then go to the Office of the Public Guardian: the brother will have had to keep accounts as the attorney, and has a responsibility to the donor (and, by implication, the donor's estate) to behave properly.
But are you sure this was a PoA rather than drawing arrangements and the like. You originally wrote "he was authorised to sign cheques for her" and "She was totally "compos mentos" at the time". It's possible there was a PoA in force, but if she had just added him to her bank accounts, or given him signing authority, then that isn't a PoA. And although obviously you can assign a PoA at any time, they're most commonly used to deal with people who are not capable of managing their own affairs.0 -
How many brothers and sisters is the will split between and how much money was left over? What's yours is mine and what's mine is mine..0
-
Ah, right, I was expecting there to be more as you mentioned she was wealthy so I was going to suggest they've had their inheritance and just split the rest between who is left.
Sorry I can't help much on this one but good luck

There is over £80.000missing - there are 5 siblings left and 75.000 instead of £155.000,( she sold her house )
Bear in mind that a private care home would have charged around £800-£1000 per week in fees. Over 18 months this would be something like £60,000 - £75,000.
Has the brother said anything about why the money was withdrawn?0 -
It was never about the price a care home would cost, it's the fact they have stolen from my aunts account ! Taken money without her consent !!!
Probably best to all move on and forget about it, you are never going to prove to a court that your Aunty didn't give consent.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -
She was telling us they were taking her money off her, and we didn't believe it.
You stated she 'became seriously ill' and was 'taken in' by them to be looked after. An hour's agency care costs more than £10. As you didn't believe what she said, presumably there was psychological support involved with her.0 -

Has anyone actually asked the brother what he did with money or are you all leaping to the conclusion that he's a criminal without finding out what happened?0
