Deactivating twitter

Hi all.
I would very much like to deactivate my twitter account. It souds like an easy problem but not for me lol.
Basically I got spammed and decided enough is enough...the problem is I cant work out how to deactivate it.
I tried to reactivate it first of all but it would not let me...I followed the instruction - Settings and then deactivate (at the bottom of the page but it would not let me!
Any ideas, would really appreciate it.

My account was deactivated - I think this might make a difference!
