30 min late for sign on day

Hi All,
As per the title I was slightly late for my signing on today. I was told that it was a serious problem-If it is important to any one here, I simply misread the apointment sheet. It is a first offence.
Saying sorry and explaining my self was fewtile.

What is the experience of others here?
Thankfully it is not a time when snow is a likely

Some of us find it very easy to misread times. I'm usually early rather than late, but I've turned up at 10:15 for a 15:10 meeting before.

Fundamentally if you're claiming benefits you (pretty much) have to jump through the jobcentre's hoops.

I say "pretty much" because sometimes they do come up with unreasonable requirements, and I think it's absolutely fine to challenge them on those. But I think expecting you to be on time for appointments is reasonable.

It seamed to me that I was taken advantage of, simply because of an honest mistake, for which I appolagised and explained my self-Indeed supose it was winter and there was deep snow--Some of the benafit office staff have time keeping of apointments that **could be improved**

I think you are a troll but I will play along while the kettle boils, original post does not answer my question. Also it is futile not fewtile, and 30 minutes isn't a bit late, it's VERY late

  • The time of your appointment is not a "please arrive around this time" it's "you must be present at this time". You should aim to arrive at least 20 - 30 minutes before to give yourself time for transport issues and if you are ever late they will consider that a no-show, regardless of how late you are, even if it's just a minute.

The rules are not flexible, if you do not have a genuine reason for being late ("I misread the time sheet", "I forgot" don't count) then they will sanction you.

The idea is that if you can't show up to the job centre on time then how can you show up to interviews on time? The expectation is you treat the job centre as if it is your job. They seem to have failed to communicate this to you which is unfortunate, however you will not find any leniency on this issue and complaining is a waste of your own time and the job centres.

Accept the sanction and learn from it.
