Have been reading this thread with interest and am as a result my WM is now on a 90 degree wash with nothing in it. I didnt have either bleach or vinigar(sacriledge-sp? I know) so instead I chucked in 1 tbsp of bicarb thinking it would be better than nothing.

I normally do a 40 degree wash using 1/4 cup of soda and 1 capful of liquid and never thought about the damage I might be causing the machine. It now 20 mins into the cycle and despite putting no detergent in the machine its absolutely FULL of suds!!! I'll be doing this more often thats for sure!

It is a amazing even when you under dose the amount that comes out of the machine.

Just watch the final spin that will show you how much comes out.

  • When i first started to use one tablet in the WM it was fine for the first few weeks/months so i guess i was using up all the soapy gunk that hangs around in the machine. After that though it came out clean to look at but not sas fresh as a daisy to smell. Not actuall sweaty but not nice. We are all clean little souls really, honest ! Only thing is the OH is a swimming teacher so every load has some chlorine in it from the 2 dozen T shirts that go through the machine every week. Maybe I should have used conditioner or vinegar but I am always afraid it might mix with the chlorine & everything comes out looking tie dyed. I wonder if the chlorine cleans the machine out a bit as well though as i never have any problems with it.

  • I cant understand how everyone is managing with half dose soap powders. When i tried it no-one said anything for a few weeks but then even the kids asked if the washing had actually been washed. Are we exceptionally sweaty people ? ( please dont say yes, its not a nice picture !)
On the other side of the same coin the last washing machine was 12years old & doing okay until something went bang inside & the plumber said it was well & truly dead. It never blocked up once & I do white & sheets on 90 and delicates on 40 & anything else on 60.

You know that nasty grey gunk I was telling you about that builds up in the machine? It does stink, as well.... _pale_

I know this sounds silly, but if I turn my tv off at the plug will it lose the settings for the channels - in other words would I have to retune it ?(like I did when it was brand new)

I always turn mine off at the wall after a friend had a fire start by a TV that was left on standby. I've never had any problems with cable, TV, or video needing to be retuned.
  • Whizz all the last grungy bits off a chicken with half the weight of butter in a processor to make chicken paste. Then make stock. Then feed the dog the carrots and onions out of the stock for part of his dinner.
Please be careful doing this - like chocolate, onions are toxic to dogs and feeding them can cause fatal hemolytic anemia - you wouldn't want to end up with huge vets bill, that's definitely not money saving :D
  • OMG I never knew about onions and dogs (although I do know about chocolate!) THANK YOU!

Just like I always switch my washing maching off at the wall. And never ever use it if I am not there. As I know someone whos machine caught fire. Lucky it was during the day and they where up and about.

Don't want to think about what would have happened if they had run the machine over night.
