Eon/NPower gas meter reading
Hope someone can help me out.
I moved into my new property in June 2012. In September 2012 I changed my gas from Eon toNPower. I gave NPower a finalreading. When I got my bill from Eon itwas huge (£600+) for 4 months. Afterignoring it for a while (sorry bad I know) I finally got in touch tocheck. I found out that I had given NPoweran incorrect reading (so high the incorrect reading is still higher that thecurrent meter reading 7 months later).
I do not know whatthe correct Sept 2012 reading is to give to Eon & NPower to get a correctbill and Eon have now set BCW group onto me. BCW are saying that because I cannot give them the correct Sept 12 reading I will have to pay the full amount.
I do want to pay for the gas I used but I will feelwell cheated if I have to pay the full amount just because I made a simplemistake.
Any ideas what to do?
Thanks for your help

Have you asked Npower to take up cudgels on your behalf?
As things stand Npower will have supplied you with gas for 8 months(Sep to May) and owe you money. (as the actual meter reading is lower than their start meter reading.)
If Npower will not take action, and the original incorrect meter reading stands, you will not have lost much money - what you will have overpaid Eon, you will underpay NPower.
I would put the facts in writing to NPower, copied to Eon and the DCA(BCW group). Don't have any more dealings with BCW group as they are not interested in sorting out this issue - the just want their money.0 -
Hmmm - A £600 bill for 4 summer months works out to useing roughly 13,250Kwh - almost a years's consumption for the average home
At a guess your meter mis-read was out by 10,000 Kwh, which is an easy mistake to make if you have an old meter that has little dials with a pointer on each one - If this is the case apart from the billing problem, you should write to n'power pointing out that your meter is way beyond it's service life and asking them to change it.
So far as the billing is concerned, WRITE a joint letter to both Eon and n'power, heading the Eon letter Complaint, enclosing photo's of your meter with it's present reading. Asking that they agree a sensible changeover reading and re-bill - It's certainly in n'powers interest to do this, otherwise they will go unpaid for an entire winter's gas supply0 -
Hi Susanna
In situations like this, you can use a process called an Agreed Reads Dispute (ARD).
This is where the two suppliers agree a reading that falls in line with other readings held for the property.
Either supplier can start the process and you'll need to give two sets of meter readings, 7 days apart.
The dispute needs to be raised within 12 months of the Change of Supply date. There are also certain thresholds below which an ARD cannot be used. However, from the info in your post, it looks as though you're ok on both counts.
Hope this is useful Susanna. Give me a shout if you need any more details as will be happy to help.

As you said, ignoring the demand was not wise. As you now realise, debts don't just disappear if you ignore them. You may also want to check your credit files as these may also be adversly affected by your non-payment of the bill.
Whilst it would be correct to address the billing error caused by your incorrect meter reading even at this late stage, I don't think you have been cheated much. If you don't address this, you will get into complications later when nPower do attempt to bill you.
Whatever you were calculated as owing Eon, you will owe nPower ... give or take a few quid depending on tariff differences, and of course you will not have to pay nPower yet for gas you have not yet consumed.0 -
Thanks everyone, I have now been in touch with both EOn & NPower who have been most helpful, and it is now in the process of been sorted. Next time I won't be speaking to the DCA but go back to the
orginal owners.
Wynth, thank you for the help, I think If I could curb my ostrich tendancies (sticking my head in the sand) things would be so much easy. Luckily or Unluckily my credit rating has already been trashed as I am in the final months of my 5 year DMP, so they cannot scare me with that.
Thanks again.
