Work Programme Course

Hi,

Some of you may have seen my thread from the other day about a call centre course my Work Programme had put me on, and I wasn't that happy in being put on it. After a chat with my advisor I wasn't referred to it for the call centre job at the end, apparently the company delivering the course are taking on admin staff at their head office and are interviewing people for those positions. I'm looking for admin work so that's the whole reason why.

So, after two days on the course, I can confirm that I am a whole lot happier than I was the other day. Everyone on the course is really friendly and made me feel welcome to the group. The course tutors couldn't be nicer. So far, so good.

I think it's like my advisor said - I tend to get myself all stressed out and worked up over things, and imagine all the worst case scenarios before I've even done things. Then they turn out not half as bad as I'd imagined, or if there is problems, they always get fixed.

hi.i am going on a vol-entry course,for construction.can i pull out of the course,if i am not suited to it,or will i be sanctioned.

Well the first week is over, and I'm genuinely enjoying the course now. First day was mainly filling out paperwork and catching on stuff in the workbooks that had been done the previous day that I missed. Since then it's got a lot more interesting.

We've done a couple of team work tasks. A bridge building one, and yesterday a tower building one - in which our team won !

Yesterday was quite fun actually. Our trainer has decided that Friday can be an early finish day, so rather than instead of a 3pm finish, we finish at 1pm. Yesterday the company delivering the course agreed to pay for dinner so we had Domino's pizza delivered to the building at 12pm - haha, can't argue with that to be fair.

So yeah, for all my stressing out on Monday I'm now a lot happier.

Yeah, we built a tower but it was all aimed at improving teamwork. Like the bridge building task earlier in the week was good, but the trainer picked up on certain things that could of been improved as a team. I.e. getting quieter people involved in the task, listening to ideas. We took these on board and in the tower building task generally worked better as a team.

At the end of the course people there is a work trial for week in a call centre, for those that want to do that.

Those that don't, like myself. The company delivering the course are taking on admin staff in their head office, which is what I want. So they are putting us forward for interviews for that.

Seems like a lot of hoops to get an interview. Why not if they have jobs do they not just give people interviews

Because this is clearly their way of filtering out oddballs with no-social/team work skills. I think it's a good idea personally.

You can do that easily in an interview and by references etc

Maybe start your own thread and see what responses you get.
